Privacy policy
Last updated 21 October 2026 · [REGISTERED COMPANY NAME], RC [NUMBER], Lagos
Bargo connects riders with independent drivers in Lagos. This policy explains what we collect when you use the Bargo rider app, the Bargo Driver app and this website, why, and what you can do about it. We are the data controller for this information.
1. What we collect
- Account: your email address (you sign in with a code sent to it), name and phone number.
- Your photo: a selfie, so drivers and riders can recognise each other.
- Trips: pickup and drop-off places, times, the fares offered and agreed, cash collected, cancellations and their reasons, Bargo Share bookings and the meeting points you use.
- Messages and feedback: trip chats, ratings, comments and problem reports.
- Safety: SOS alerts with your location at that moment, and the trusted contacts you add (name and phone).
- Drivers also: NIN, driver's licence, ID, vehicle papers and insurance (with expiry dates), car details, plate and photos, a live selfie, vehicle inspection results, bank details and commission payments.
- Your phone: a notification token so we can send trip updates, and the app's platform.
- Driver sign-ups on this website: name, phone, car and area. We don't store your IP address, only a scrambled code made from it to stop spam.
2. Why we use it
- To run trips: pricing, matching riders with nearby drivers, the ride PIN, chat and trip records (to perform our contract with you).
- To keep people safe: checking drivers and cars, SOS, ratings, reports and blocking repeated late cancellations (our legitimate interest and your vital interests).
- To work out and record drivers' commission (contract and legal obligations).
- To help you when you contact support, and to prevent fraud and misuse (legitimate interest).
- To contact people who signed up to drive on this website (your consent, which you can withdraw).
- To meet legal duties, including requests from Lagos State or the police made under the law.
We don't sell your information and we don't use it for advertising.
3. Location
- Riders: the app uses your location only while it's open, to set your pickup, and when you press SOS.
- Drivers: the app shares your location while you're online, including when it's in the background, so riders can find you and see you coming. We keep only your latest position; going offline stops it.
- Pickup and drop-off places are kept with each trip.
5. Safety and SOS
When you press SOS, your location, the trip and the people on it go to the Bargo safety team straight away. Calling 112 is a separate tap that you make. Your trusted contacts only get a trip link when you send it to them.
6. How long we keep it
- Your account details are kept while your account is open.
- Live trip links stop working 12 hours after they're made, or 1 hour after the trip ends.
- Trip records, chats, ratings, reports and SOS alerts are kept for [PERIOD, to be confirmed] because drivers' earnings records and safety cases need them. After you delete your account they're no longer linked to your name.
- Driver documents are kept while the driver works with Bargo and for [PERIOD, to be confirmed] after.
- Website driver sign-ups are kept for [PERIOD, to be confirmed] unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
7. Deleting your account
Riders can delete their account in the app:
- Open the Bargo app and go to Profile.
- Tap Delete my account and data, read what happens, then type DELETE to confirm.
- You can't do this during a trip. Finish or cancel it first.
What's deleted straight away: your name, phone number, email address, selfie, trusted contacts and notification tokens. Open ride requests and bookings are cancelled and trip links stop working. You're signed out everywhere, and you can sign up again later with the same email as a new account.
What's kept, without your name: past trips, ratings, chats, reports and SOS alerts, shown as "Deleted rider", because the drivers' records and safety cases need them.
Drivers, and anyone who can't use the app, can ask us to delete their account or particular data by emailing [CONTACT EMAIL] from the email address on the account. We'll confirm it's you and reply within [NUMBER] days. Some records (commission payments, for example) may have to be kept for legal reasons; we'll tell you which.
8. Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your information
- correct it (you can change your name, phone and photo in the app)
- delete it (see above)
- stop or limit using it in some cases, or move it to another service
- withdraw consent you gave, such as to be contacted after a website sign-up
If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Bargo is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information about children.
9. Contact
Email [CONTACT EMAIL], or write to [REGISTERED COMPANY NAME], [REGISTERED ADDRESS], Lagos. We'll tell you here and in the app before we make important changes to this policy.
